Zamaji-The Great

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

There’s one person in everybody’s life who no matter where you are or what you’re doing, you can talk to him anytime. There’s a lot of mutual connection between both and it’s one of the stronger bonds you come across. Zamaji (self-invented word for maternal uncle). Whenever I hear this word, a lot of excitement just pops up in my mind. And immediately, be it whatever I’m doing, my mind is distracted towards this person. I imagine myself talking to him on several topics, and why not, such is his attraction.

The interesting thing is that for most people, their maternal uncles are an iconic figure in their lives (in my experience). As I’m describing my ZAMAJI, you’d expect me to tell that he’s a unique personality, and things like that. But whatever I’m writing is what I think about him, is all true. And the way I’ll describe him, you’ll think it in a dreamy way, and I’d agree, because it’s tough to get this species anywhere.

What would you think of this rare species of people? A person who grants all your wishes and keeps you happy. Absolutely not. ZAMAJI is someone who gives you time, gives you a scolding when you deserve it, and loves you immensely.

Zamaji is the perfect all-rounder. Academics, sports, arts, writing, he has nailed everything you have done. Your work has inspired me a lot, and I feel so grateful that I have a Zamaji, who people only imagine in their wildest dreams. It took me a lot of time to write about him, because he’s a person with too many qualities to admire. Every single day with him is a learning opportunity because you keep improving day by day. Every person has flaws, but many don’t improve those. He gives his best to patch all those flaws unlike several others.

Energy and Enthusiasm. He never seems to run out of both of them, and together they make a deadly combo. The energy you have is unimaginable at your age, and the way he utilises it is fantastic. When he does things, like workout or playing tennis, he's up for the challenge, and the challenge brings the best out of him. His enthusiasm really makes us feel good and refreshed even if we were tired. Laziness is something I’ve never seen in him, and I hope to never do, because I love my Zamaji who likes to do things at his full potential.

His seriousness and dedication to your work is very admirable. When he is working on something really important, he gets stuck in a loop of it. His focus will be on that thing until it ends, which is rare. People tend to get distracted from their work once they get bored of it, but his dedication towards your work is amazing. Punctuality is another great quality of his, and even if he works on some project at the last moment (which I’m pretty sure he doesn't) you still manage to finish it on time.

Habitual with things. He has has a lot of habits that he does every day, like working out. Him being punctual with things he enjoys, is really fascinating. In normal circumstances, people are not habitual with things they like and enjoy doing. For example, I like to write, and I was very regular with my blog posts. But time flew by and my posts weren’t regular and I wasn’t habitual with writing. Zamaji has inspired me to change this and be regular and good with things I enjoy.

Scolding. This is something I really don’t enjoy, but it’s important to mention this. He’s not like people who yell and reprimand kids without any reason, or in other situations, don’t yell or scold them at all when they make a mistake. I do feel bad when all of a sudden, when we all are in a good mood, and I do something wrong, and he scolds me. Normally your mood is good enough, and only 1 out of 10 times there are chances of him getting irritated and lashing out.

It's not necessary that it should be your maternal uncle or somebody else, but there has to be an iconic figure in your life who will help you no matter what happens, and guides you. That one person is your mentor, teacher and friend. Just keep up the connection and don’t lose him. Could be the answer to the mystery of life too.
