In the 21st century, the main focus entertainment-wise has been on movies. The rise of movies, and the decline of TV shows, regardless of genres, has been quite a story. But it was one bad thing that gave TV shows a new lifeline. The spread of COVID-19 pandemic gave TV shows a second life, and through even better ways, the OTT platforms. Binge-watching has provided streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar, Hulu, Voot, etcetera.
Their rise in increment during the pandemic-period is beyond imaginable in normal times.
With the COVID-19 and quarantines being quite dark periods in our lives, funny TV shows have given us a glimmer of hope that happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. They’re giving us something to laugh even when we’re at our all-time low, and feeling down, and keep the LOLs and ROFLs rolling. I just don’t know what exactly, but this genre has something that others do not. It has a different spark that you exactly want in your bad times, and good times.
For good operations, we’ve included our favourites from 2020, as well as the past. We’ll be talking about ranges of comedies that are available on OTT platforms, as well as TVs. Vote down below on your favourite show, rating it on the scale of 1 to 5, and you can also vote down if the show wasn’t funny.

4) Young Sheldon (Amazon Prime)
As we see another Amazon Prime based series, Young Sheldon had to make the cut anyhow. It is set in the late 1980s, and is a prequel of the successful/hilarious, The Big Bang Theory. Prodigy Sheldon Cooper (Ian Armitage) skips 4 grades, and at the age of nine, starts High School. As of season 4, he’s currently in college. The show has immense support from other cast members: Lance Barber, Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, apart from others.

3) The Office (Amazon Prime Video)
When the first season of The Office came out back in 2005, it was well below the expectations. The first couple of seasons weren’t funny at all, but from the third season onwards, it turned out to be an absolute blockbuster series. Steve Carrell as Michael Scott, John Krasinski as Jim, and Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute will be forever unforgettable. Though the show ended nearly 8 years ago, it’s still afresh in the minds of fans. Michael’s departure, Dwight’s bobblehead, the bird funeral, etcetera will never be forgotten.

2) Brooklyn Nine Nine (Netflix)
When we’re talking about funny shows, there is no way to leave out Michael Schur’s creations, and Brooklyn Nine Nine is one of them. Nicknamed as B99, it started back in 2013, after The Office ended, and made the audience laugh like crazy, led by Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher), Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Trugolio), Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz), Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) and Hitchcock (Dirt Blocker). B99’s story is very inspirational as it came back from the dead. Fox had cancelled their contract back in May 2018, but a day later, NBC picked them up, and the rest is history. The series will soon end this year, at the end of the 8th season, but will go down as one of the best, but underrated.
Modern Family (Hotstar)

Many might call me biased, and I will not contradict you. Dating back to September 2009, Modern Family has been one of the best shows ever, and my personal favourite. It has one of the most hilarious and legendary characters in history, and my favourite being Phil Humphrey Dunphy. The show depicts the amount of love a family has for each other despite cultural and religious differences. More than half of them aren’t even blood relatives and are weirdly connected to each other, but showed the true value of love, and make it uniquely comedic. It just has too much humour. Modern Family has shown us that even though they’re not related through blood, they still bond. I highly recommend you to watch this show.
Comedy shows have changed the face of the TV industry, and the value addition of OTT platforms has taken them to the next level. Shows like The Office and Modern Family that’ve already ended, are still watched because of the humour and fun they have. I must’ve missed out on several shows that many people love, but all the above are probably the best in the business.
