Late again!

Consistency is the key, and Phil maintained his consistency for 28 successive days. In about 95% of cases, you’d like to be consistent in the good things, but come on hippies, it’s Phil. There’s no such thing in the world that Phil can’t mess up, and sometimes, he even messes up messing up. Most of the time, him messing things up isn’t on purpose but with his mind so advanced in disobeying and doing things the wrong way, he was the master of his own will. His mischievous mind made things go way too far, though he continued with his perfect record: being late to school for 4 consecutive weeks.

The more intriguing thing is that even though it’s his fault that he never reached school on time, he always had multiple excuses that always got him away with things. He once said that he reached the school before anyone else, but he fell into a puddle on a Monsoon morning and thus had to go back home to change his outfit. What could the teachers even do? Make him stand out of the class? Punish him? Suspend him? They obviously tried that already, but not no school was definitely a dream come true for Phil. Could’ve even been his master plan, just in case you didn’t realize it.

It was day 28th of Phil’s unmatched consistency of not reaching school on time. Always known to be patient and handle things calmly, Mr. Simmons lost his cool and he burst out with anger! In his 30-year-old teaching career, nobody had ever seen him get angry at all, but Phil’s main motive was to do things that nobody else had done previously. Hadn’t he achieved a lot of these things already?

‘Why the heck are you late to school again, Phil?! I bet you have another excuse of not being able to reach in time?!’ yelled Mr. Simmons.

‘No, sir. I have a genuine reason of not being able to come to school on time today’ said Phil gently.

‘Oh really, is that so? Let me hear your ‘genuine’ reason’ said Mr. Simmons sarcastically.

‘Last night, I found out that there is a chest full of valuables in my backyard that was buried by my great grandfather centuries ago. I woke up at 4 am in the morning and started digging all over the place, and lost track of time’ said Phil.

Greedy Mr. Simmons wanted to have a decent share from whatever was found in the hidden chest. He had natural desires of becoming rich without much of an effort, cause why not? Everyone likes things when they come in easy. ‘Meet me after class, Phil’ whispered Mr. Simmons.

Mr. Simmons and Phil started walking to the latter’s home, and Mr. Simmons said ‘I’ll be helping you in digging the treasure, but I will need my fair share.’ Phil nodded in affirmation.

Mr. Simmons was energized more than ever, and he took a shovel and started digging the backyard. Because the result of the digging was going to be sweeter than anything else, the pain of doing the same didn’t matter to him at all. For 5 hours straight, Mr. Simmons put his heart and soul into finding the buried chest, but there was no sign of it.

‘Where the heck is the chest full of valuables? I have put hours of effort into this but haven’t found anything yet? said a tired Mr. Simmons.

‘Well, the treasure was here in the morning until my mom woke me up from sleep in the morning for school,’ said Phil.

Mr. Simmons couldn’t believe what happened and passed out immediately in disbelief. Phil giggled softly as he knew this could be his last laugh in a while, for what he had done.
