Getting along with AUNTS

Updated: Jun 4, 2021

What do you think when you hear the word aunt? An evil, devilish, and scary face might pop up in your mind, won’t it? Yeah, it does. You might already have got an idea of what I’ll talk about today.

And as the name suggests, I will talk about our aunts.

Firstly, I’ll make sure you know that whatever I am writing in this blog is just my point of view, and it doesn’t apply to anyone or anything. So, just enjoy reading.

As I said before, whenever you hear the word-AUNT, you might think of that face in your mind (I don’t want to describe it again because it’s scary). But, I won’t picture that in my mind. That’s because aunts are not always the evil ones. Aunts are basically of two types- paternal and maternal of course. But in description also, they are of two types (I don’t know if there are more)-

1) The evil ones as I mentioned above, who not only torture kids but also adults (the weak ones) with their wicked tricks for fun. They have horrible breath and they are mostly ignored by nearly everyone.

2) And the good ones of course. These are the ones who are brave and honest and kind and true until the very end (that was the obvious description for the good ones).

Well, yours can be any of the ones below.

So, from my point of view, I think most authors and novel writers have destroyed the character of aunts by always portraying them as the bad ones in the story. Like in the Harry Potter series too, the character of Mrs. Petunia Dursley (Harry Potter’s maternal aunt) was destroyed by author J.K Rowling. The character’s description is very much like what I have described for the evil aunts. But actually, Mrs. Dursley wasn’t as bad as she was described. But, we still enjoyed the book.

Children who are bookworms have started to believe that aunts, be it whatever, are always evil. There are many books in which aunts play the role of evil and devilish monsters who torture their nieces and nephews.

Since we (Students of English medium schools) read English books, we don't come across a lovely person like an aunt. All the time authors paint the aunt as a bad person.

If you still think that aunts are evil and devilish, then continue reading until I convince you that they are not!

There is no particular day in the year dedicated to aunts or uncles. There is grandparent's day, mother’s day, father’s day, and the list is endless. There are days for silly reasons like National Youth Day which is not even celebrated. Why was this day even created? I know this thing is informative because most of you might have not even heard of this day before! It is dedicated to Swami Vivekananda and it’s his birthday of course. I don’t mean to disrespect the great Swami Vivekananda but even though he was a great soul, we don’t celebrate his birthday, do we? Instead of celebrating his birthday, we should rather be taught his great teachings, WHICH will make him happier. We’d rather like to have an Aunt and Uncle Day, don’t you think so? Well, I certainly want one.

Firstly, the youths are not given much importance. Secondly, if they are not given importance, then why the heck do they need to have a National Youth Day!

I would have protested having an Aunt and Uncle Day unless the Covid-19 havoc wouldn’t have destroyed the day. My point is that Aunts and Uncles are not given equal importance as grandparents, parents, siblings, and etcetera. If you still think that aunts are evil and devilish, then continue reading until I convince you that they are not!

So, as I said before the characterization of aunts is too bad. People like us need to seriously understand this because it does affect us. After all, we won’t be able to feel the joy and love we get from our aunts. And of course, aunts too will be affected. As hard as they try to grab the attention of the kids or try to get along with them, they fail. I don’t mean to hurt anyone, but most of the attention is GRABBED by uncles.. Wait, I won’t waste time by protesting and I shall move on. And this segment is dedicated to aunts, not protests.

There are a lot of reasons why aunts are so vital in our lives. I have observed this whenever I am with my AUNT. Firstly, they are very good listeners and are loaded with patience, which again most of you might have never known. If you didn’t, then please try and share something with your aunt, and I am sure that you’ll be successful. Another reason why they’re so important in our lives is that they teach us small, vital life lessons. I know that adults always teach us life lessons all the time (kind of boring but still important), but AUNTS too teach us a lot of life lessons which people think are not so important.

There are a lot of reasons why we should spend time with our AUNTS, but I will discuss only a few. The most important thing is, they give us our COUSINS. I know that’s hilarious to read but I mean it’s true. If we don’t have our AUNTS (and uncles too), we ain’t having any cousins. Many people say that it takes a village to raise a child, and I think that an AUNT is an entire village rolled together and helping in raising us. Aunts are the only ones, who share secrets like a sibling, give hugs and kisses like a mother, and love like a friend.

I hope when you read this you’ll realize how important an AUNT is in our life. Every one of us should get along with our AUNTS, and also try the above. And I don’t need to tell you the other reasons why AUNTS are important, because if you get along with your AUNTS through the ways I’ve stated, then you’ll easily figure out the other reasons too!

Try and do things with your AUNTS, which you both like and enjoy. Play board games, talk, go out for a walk, etcetera. This applies to everyone you love or don’t spend time with. If you procrastinate your time with your AUNTS or any other relatives, then, boy, it will be tough for you later.

It’s your childhood when you can spend as much time as you can with your relatives and take full advantage of it. Don't ignore them or spend time with them for your own benefits.

Having AUNTS or any other relatives in your life is a blessing. If all this helps you out, then your life’s in a good shape.

I am glad that I spend so much time with not only my AUNTS but my entire family! I am in a great space in my life and my relationship with my relatives and family is good. I hope it helps you out too.

I don’t mean to say that I am a perfect person and that’s why I am giving you this spiritual talk. We can only try to become a perfect person and if we succeed, then- I don’t even know what to say. Well, I just got carried away with the SPIRITUAL talk and also stretched this thing a bit too far. I’ll take your leave for the day and thanks for reading!
